Liz Glynn: Open House features the artist’s 2017 concrete reconstructions of Louis XIV-style furniture, arranged to evoke an opulent Gilded Age ballroom. The work references the New York City mansion of the politician and financier William C. Whitney. In 2017, the Public Art Fund first installed the work at the southern end of Central Park, blocks away from the mansion.
At Storm King, Open House is placed directly in the natural landscape, allowing it to function as a ruin or an anachronistic architectural folly. Nestled in the grass, Glynn’s sculptures invite visitors to engage directly with the works and imagine the origins and former lives of the displaced furniture.
