In Ryan’s largest presentation in Scotland to date, Veronica Ryan:The Weather Inside II features recent and new work created in response to the Mount Stuart House, its contents, living collection, and gardens. Reflecting on materiality, lineage, and family histories, the new work embraces domestic objects as conduits for memory. The handmade works are installed throughout the house by Ryan, who placed them on mantels, tucked into windowsills, or rested on poufs. The exhibition also considers the wider context of the Isle of Bute, shaped by its surrounding sea, while continuing Ryan’s investigations into collecting practices, colonialism, and the natural world.
