On the occasion of Mark di Suvero: Avanti!, Paula Cooper Gallery and The Brooklyn Rail will present a screening of the 1977 documentary North Star: Mark di Suvero, produced by François de Menil and Barbara Rose with music by Philip Glass.
Filmed over two years, the documentary consists of interviews and discussions with di Suvero about his relationship to the tumultuous political moments in the United States, interlaced with shots of the installation and construction of his signature monumental steel sculptures. North Star: Mark di Suvero, which runs 54 minutes, is an illuminating portrait of the artist and offers an intimate look at his life and practice. Anita Contini, the founder of Creative Time, former public arts lead at Bloomberg Philanthropies and long-time dear friend of Mark’s will provide a reflection on di Suvero’s work before the screening.
