Céleste Boursier-Mougenot miner(e)ality in Booth B316 of the xiàn chăng section of West Bund Art & Design 2020 from November 12 through 15, 2020.
Paula Cooper Gallery is pleased to announce miner(e)ality, a special presentation by Céleste Boursier-Mougenot in the xiàn chăng section of West Bund Art & Design 2020 in Shanghai from November 12 through 15, 2020 at Booth B316. The xiàn chăng section is comprised of solo presentations by international artists, which are installed inside and outside the West Bund Art Center, spanning the West Bund arts district and existing urban venues.
The art installations of Céleste Boursier-Mougenot (b. Nice, 1961) are investigations into sound and space, often fostering altered perceptual states of suspension and daydreaming. His new site-specific installation miner(e)ality is made of crushed recycled glass and large rocks to create a landscape of visual and sonic elements. As the viewer enters the work and experiences it from within, the crunching and shifting of glass pebbles underfoot contrasts with the hieratic, circular arrangement of river rocks. Once activated, the work becomes a dreamscape, a place of rest where sensory information is filtered and distilled. Boursier-Mougenot, who is internationally celebrated for his sophisticated interactive installations, will exhibit a version of this piece at the Ocean Flower Island Museum in Hainan in 2021.
